Whether it’s the heat of summer or the cold months of winter, you rely on your home’s HVAC system to keep you comfortable.

If you’re concerned about the state of your HVAC system, then it could be time to call on the professionals for help.

Read on to discover a list of six signs that you’re in need of HVAC repair, so you can take care of the issue before it gets out of control.

1. Poor or Low Airflow

If it feels like the air coming out of your vents is suddenly extremely weak, then it could be a sign your system is in trouble. This is one common red flag that may indicate your system isn’t working the way it should, or that there’s something that is preventing the air from reaching its destination.

Weak or low airflow could be a simple matter of HVAC maintenance like inspecting your ducting or filters. However, it might also indicate that there’s a much more serious underlying problem such as a compromised blower motor or impacted blower wheel.

If you change the filters, inspect the ducting, and the airflow doesn’t improve, you may need some HVAC repair. Whether it’s a problem with the ductwork or the overall design of the system, it’s always best to contact the pros when you’re in doubt.

2. Your System Cycles Too Often

As temperatures fluctuate, it’s completely normal for your HVAC system to cycle on and off. However, if it seems like it’s happening too frequently, then the system could be the incorrect size for the design of your home, or there could be an issue with your compressor ( /what-is-an-air-conditioner-compressor/ ).

If the temperatures are extremely hot, expect your system to turn on more often than it normally would. However, it still should not consistently cycle on and off.

In most cases, you probably need a simple HVAC tune-up to correct the problem. If that doesn’t rectify the issue, unfortunately, it could be time for a complete replacement of your A/C unit.

3. HVAC Repair: You See Signs of Water

In order to keep your home nice and cool, your air conditioner requires refrigerant to keep temperatures comfortable. As the system runs, this refrigerant will produce some level of condensation naturally.

If you notice water leaking inside your home from the unit or refrigerant line, then it’s often a sign that your system is in trouble. Check around the air conditioner and look for any signs of pooled water, an active leak, or frozen pipes/lineset.

Visible pooling or leaking means that it’s time for a professional assessment. Not only can leaks cause very serious damage to your home, but they can also damage your HVAC system if they don’t get addressed right away.

4. Strange Noises

Of course, some level of noise is completely normal when your HVAC system is running since there are a lot of moving parts. But if you start to notice extremely loud or constant grinding, squealing, or squeaking sounds, then it likely means you need some HVAC repairs done right away.

Unusual or really loud sounds could mean something simple like your HVAC needs cleaning or an adjustment. However, it could also indicate that there’s a part that is failing or a component that may need to be balanced and/or replaced. At worst, it could be a compressor drawing high amps, needing to be replaced.

Consider signing up for an HVAC maintenance plan so you can keep an eye on your system and stop most problems before they start. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you do notice that your system is louder than usual or begins to make sounds that are out of the ordinary. Even if you don’t have a broken HVAC, it’s best to investigate the problem before it becomes worse or extremely expensive to repair.

5. High Levels of Indoor Humidity

Humidity is never pleasant, but it’s especially frustrating when you feel muggy and it’s humid inside your home and the system is running. Your air conditioner has to work harder to keep your house cool when humidity levels are high, but that doesn’t mean you should sit and suffer indoors during the summer.

If your home’s humidity levels are higher than normal, then there could be a few different causes for the concern. Older units or units that are incorrectly sized can’t handle the daunting task of keeping larger homes cool and comfortable. It could be a matter of needing a new HVAC installation so you have a system that can work harder to meet your needs.

High indoor humidity means that your current system is working harder than it should, which adds more wear and tear to the unit itself. This also tends to result in higher energy bills, which is also something you definitely don’t want to have to deal with.

6. High Monthly Energy Costs

There’s nothing quite as unpleasant as getting sticker shock when you receive an unusually high energy bill. If your monthly bill suddenly skyrockets, then it’s likely due to an issue with your HVAC system.

The most common causes for a high bill include a dirty or clogged air filter, duct leaks, and failing parts. Changing your air filter or repairing leaky air ducts is easy, but identifying and repairing a broken part likely requires the trained eye of a professional.

Whether it’s a failing motor, compressor, or capacitor, these parts will cause your bills to be higher if they are failing or no longer working. Contact someone as soon as possible if you think your higher energy bill is a result of an issue with the system itself.

Healthy HVAC System, Happy Home

Keep these important red flags in mind if you think that you may need professional HVAC repair. Whether it’s unusual noises, leaking water, high humidity, or high energy bills, it’s always best to get help as soon as possible to prevent bigger problems in the future.

Greg Rangel was on time, gave me a courtesy call before he arrived, and once he arrived, he called to find out the issues with the AC and got to work. Greg provided me with information about the AC unit after he found out what was happening, and he walked me through the process and the cost! He also changed the filter! I am now a member due to his outstanding customer service. Thank you, Greg, for your professionalism.

This company responded immediately to address an air conditioning problem for my elderly Mother during 100 degree heat. They responded in just a couple of hours. Greg Rangel was the technician and fixed the problem. He did explain the unit was older and would soon need replacement. He thoroughly explained this to me and offered a senior discount for my Mother and a lower priced unit. Job well done and thank you.

Truly professionals. Garrett showed up at scheduled time, answered all my questions and did a thorough inspection of my unit. Never felt pressured or like I was trying to be sold on anything. He explained everything along the way. An issue was found on some wiring outside, I was shown the issue and given the option to have it fixed. He showed me the completed work and the material used. I would highly recommend this locally owned and operated company.

Greg arrived late Saturday evening and worked out the problem. He explained the problem and eventually determined it began with the original set up of the thermostat, which was wrong for a heat pump. The problem was fixed, and great credit to Greg for being enthusiastic, professional and staying until it was done.
